Nison-in Temple was built by Buddhist monk, Ennin in the 9th century.

The name, Nison-in, is derived from the two Buddhist statues Shaka Nyorai and Amida Nyorai .

It is renowned for its picturesque autumn colors and the beautiful landscape surroundings since its founding.

Nison-in Temple is located at the foot of Mt.Ogura and a temple of the Tendai sect. The gate is called Somon or the main gate. It was relocated from Fushimi Castle by a wealthy merchant, Suminokura Ryoi in 1613. The atmosphere on the temple grounds is magnificent due to the overhanging trees along the approach. You can get views over the city from the upper grounds.
