[1] Tenryu-ji Temple

This Temple is one of the Zen Buddhist temples of Rinzai sect and also one of 17 World Heritage Sites registered in Kyoto.

[2] Nonomiya-jinja Shrine

This is in the Bamboo Forest. The Black Torii Gate is an ancient style torii. A deity of marriage is enshrined. Especially it is popular among young people.

[3] Jojakko-ji Temple

This was built by a Buddhist monk, Nisshin in the end of the 16th c.. Many beautiful flowers bloom in the garden. Especially maple color leaves are well known.

[4] Rakushisha

This was a retirement house of Mukai Kyorai, a chief disciple of Matsuo Basho who was the great master of “Haiku” in the Edo Period(1596-1648).

[5] Nison-in Temple

This was built by a Buddhist monk, Ennin in 9th centuries.
The name, Nison-in is derived from the two Buddhist statues; Shaka Nyorai and Amida Nyorai .

[6] Gio-ji Temple

Gio-ji is a modest thatched hut surrounded by a bamboo grove and maple trees. It is known as a convent of tragic love.

[7] Seiryo-ji Temple

This temple has another name, “Saga Shakado”. Literally the main Buddhist statue of this temple is Shaka Nyorai which was brought back from China. It is a National Treasure.
