This mountainside temple of Mt.Ogura was founded in 1596. Hondo, Main hall was relocated from Fushimi Castle in the 16th century. This temple is known for the beauty of maples, chrysanthemums and hagi or bush clovers in autumn. And also, snowy willows, sasanquas and camellias are beautiful in spring. Maple trees and moss are just beside the paths and stairs that lead across the temple grounds. From a number of spots, you can enjoy views over Kyoto.Many beautiful flowers bloom in the garden. Especially maple color leaves are well known.

The villa of Fujiwara-no-Teika is said to have been here.  He is very famous as the selector of Hyakunin- isshu. It is an old Japanese card game.
